Is a refurbished hot tub a good value?

I am considering purchasing a refurbished hot tub. What should I be concerned with and will it be as good a value for the dollar as a new spa?

Hi Douglas,

We like how you think and we believe you should be able to find a refurbished hot tub for just as good a value as new.

Functionality

First, be sure to check the functionality of the hot tub. Does it hold water or leak? Do the pumps sound like they are sound or are failing? Leaks are much easier to resolve before the hot tub is in place. Equipment problems, like pumps, are not terrible to service but can be expensive. A quality refurbish job would include new seals and bearings in the motors. A simple wet test can work to prove all of these functions.

All of the safety devices – flow switches, safety suction devices, filter covers and baskets – MUST be checked and MUST be in perfect order. On the topic of safety, some spa refurbishers will install a new ozonator, to aid in keeping the water clear and free from bacteria.

Next, check out the fancy features like stereo, speakers, lights, pillows and jets to confirm they are functioning properly.

If you have a spa refurbishing company near you, it may be worth buying from them as they may offer a warranty that you would not get buying from a previous owner.

Happy Tubbing!
