Hello Fellow Tubbers!
Today we want to share some simple tips and ideas for caring for your hot tub and spa. You may already be doing some of these, but we wanted to put a list all in a single place for our readers.
Smelly hot tub covers – Should your cover become smelly, use a mix of ninety percent water and ten percent bleach to wipe down the bottom of the cover as needed. This process will remove and prevent the conditions that can produce the odor.
Scum line – To remove and help prevent the formation of a scum line at the water level, use an enzyme product on a regular basis. These products function by breaking down fatty lipids. This allows the sanitizing chemicals to do their job better as well and also helps keep the filter cleaner.
Drain and Re-Fill -To keep debris from recirculating when you drain and re-fill your hot tub, cover the lower return inlets with nylon hose. This will prevent any debris from getting back into the filter and tubing system of the tub.
Remove oils – An expensive method of getting body oils and lotions, etc from your hot tub water, is to put a tennis ball or two in the skimmer of the. The balls will collect the oils and keep them from the filtration systems. Check the balls every now and then replace them once they become saturated with the oils.
Filling the tub – When filling your hot tub, attach nylon hose over the end of the hose to filter the water going into the tub. If you cannot use this method, add the water to the filter area so it has to pass through the filter first before filling the tub.
Lower heating bills – Check with your utility provider and find out when their off peak usage hours are. If you heat your spa during these hours, your heating bill will be minimized. A thick hot tub cover will then keep the heat in the spa till your next use.
Happy Tubbing!
