Good Afternoon Hot Tub Pros,
I have a question, when ordering a replacement spa cover, does it include the inner foam or is it simply a cover that requires the reuses of the existing foam in the old cover?
Thank you,
Denise from Dallas, TX
Great question!!!
When ordering a replacement spa cover, most will order the entire cover, which includes the inside foam cores and the outside vinyl. This is because most of the time, the cover fails from waterlogging and the internal cores are very heavy. Even if the foam cores seem fine, be sure to check the vapor barrier which is the “plastic bag” that the cores are in. If it seems flimsy in any way, it is on its way to failing and The Pros recommend replacing the cores along with the vinyl skin. The best reason to do so and to not wait is the manufacturer of the vinyl skin will be able to insure a better fit if they have the foam cores to work with.
However, if the foam cores and the vapor barriers are in good shape, you can order only the vinyl from some of the online stores. The cover thickness, length, width, rounded or cut corner and skirt length will all need to be provided to the supplier so they can make it to fit your cores.
In some cases, there will be an instance where one side or both sides of the foam will crack or break for various reasons. When this happens, whether it is from storm damage, heavy snow load or from someone sitting or standing on it, The Pros recommend ordering just the foam core that needs to be replaced. This can save you time and most importantly money. Not all hot tub dealers will allow you to order these components separately, so The Pros suggest shopping around for a dealer that will sell you these separately should you need it. Keep in mind that typically, a single core will have the same freight charges as an entire cover, so don’t make the mistake of having to order another core any time soon!
Happy Tubbing!
